Driveway Sanding in Meath — Re-Sand After a Deep Clean
After a deep clean or powerwash we refill the joints with fresh kiln-dried sand — firming the driveway and slowing the weeds and algae that take hold in empty joints.
Re-sanding is the finishing step on a block-paving clean — and a service in its own right. A deep clean or a deep powerwash flushes the kiln-dried sand out from between your blocks. We refill those joints with fresh kiln-dried sand, which firms the driveway back up and helps slow the weeds, moss and algae that take hold in empty joints.
It's owner-operated like everything we do — Brendan on the job, fully insured, and a firm price given on a house visit. If a previous powerwash has left your blocks loose and the joints bare, this is the fix.
Why a cleaned driveway needs re-sanding
The kiln-dried sand packed between paving blocks isn't just cosmetic — it's structural. It locks the blocks together so they share load and don't rock or shift underfoot and under car tyres.
A proper deep clean or powerwash lifts the dirt and growth out of those joints, and the jointing sand comes with it. Leave the joints empty and two things happen: the blocks lose their interlock and start to loosen, and the open gaps become the perfect seedbed for weeds and moss. Refilling the sand restores the interlock and closes the gaps — which is exactly why we re-sand every block driveway we clean, and why it's worth doing on a driveway that's been powerwashed and left bare.
How fresh sand slows weeds and algae
Weeds and moss in a driveway don't grow up through the blocks — they grow in the joints, where windblown seeds and spores settle into loose, damp debris. A joint packed firm with clean kiln-dried sand leaves them far less to root into.
It won't stop growth forever — nothing does in the Irish climate — but a properly re-sanded joint is much slower to green up than an empty one, especially when it follows a softwash that's already killed the existing growth at the root. Clean first, kill the growth, then re-sand: that sequence is what makes the result last.
When we re-sand
Two situations:
- As standard, after we clean. Every cobblelock or block driveway we clean gets re-sanded as part of the job — we never strip the joints and leave them bare.
- On its own, as a fix. If a previous deep powerwash (by anyone) has left your joints empty and the blocks loose or rocking, we'll come and re-sand to firm everything back up.
We'll tell you on the house visit which your driveway needs.
